The first Château l'Evêque was built in the 10th century by Bishop Frotaire. It gained more importance in the 14th century when another Bishop, Adhémar de Neuville, constructed two neighboring fortresses at this location. Nineteen years later, they were partially destroyed by the English. Reconstruction began in the second half of the 15th century when the castle became the favorite residence of the Bishops of Périgueux. The two former fortresses were connected by a central wing, and this reconstruction was completed around 1515/1520 under the supervision of Guy de Castelnau. The Medieval architecture evolved towards the Renaissance while retaining a strong influence of Flamboyant Gothic.
This castle has had numerous owners, including Jenny Sacerdote, a famous Parisian couturier and the second woman to receive the Legion of Honor. It is a place steeped in history, which will leave a lasting impression and delight couples in search of a unique and historic venue.
